3 Tips for Better ‘Getting Ready’ Photos on your Wedding Day

I absolutely love documenting the time when a bride is getting ready for her wedding day, it’s such an exciting time for her and those special people surrounding her on this day! There are so many beautiful details that the bride has meticulously chosen for her day and it’s my joy to photograph it all.  And I’m not the only one who loves getting ready photos but many of my LOP Brides have told us how much they cherish these images.  So, how can you prepare and make the most of your getting ready photos? Here are a few things that you can do to ensure that your getting ready photos are every bit as beautiful as you imagine them to be!

1. Be Prepared!

As your wedding day arrives, grab a shoe box and put all of your wedding day details into the box.  Your wedding invitation suite, jewelry, shoes, a unique dress hanger, any special item that you’re carrying as your ‘something old’ or ‘something borrowed’…when your photographer arrives on your wedding day, everything will be in one spot and ready to be photographed!  This way, nothing will be left out and you won’t have to send your maid of honor to search for them!  Also, be sure to have yours & your fiancé’s wedding rings with you, cleaned, and ready to be photographed!

You will look back many years and have these detailed memories to remind you of a this oh so magical day, where you said I do to your forever!

2. Bring in ALL the light!

When it comes to photography, light is king!  Natural sunlight is softer, more even, and more flattering than the light that comes from light fixtures and lamps.  When you’re deciding where to get ready on your wedding day, consider the amount of natural light in the space.  Also, ask to see if there is a nice outdoor area that you can use for your finishing touches.

3. Cut the Clutter

When getting ready on your wedding day, the bride, herself, has a lot of ‘stuff’ that she’ll need to bring with her.  Many brides also get ready with their bridesmaids in the same area and you can imagine how much ‘stuff’ that accumulates…brushes, makeup kits, bags, clothes, snacks & water bottles, accessories.  It becomes a lot of clutter!  To have the clean and elegant photos that you’ve been dreaming of, it’s crucial to clear away the clutter as much as possible! You can always designate a helper to keep everything clean, organized & tucked away on your wedding day. Also, don’t be afraid to relocate lamps, paintings & bedspreads that don’t go with your aesthetic by tucking them away in a closet…and out of your photos!

Like me, all wedding photographers want to give their clients beautiful photos of their special day.  The getting ready shots are no different and you deserve stunning photos that you’ll cherish years from now.  Following these 3 tips:  Being prepared with your details all in one area, having plenty of natural light, and keeping the room clutter free will help your photographer to create beautiful and clean photos so that you’ll treasure them forever.

xoxo,

Lindsay ♡
